Louis Vuitton is a luxury label people associate with high-class luggage, bags, and other leather products. Much like other fashion houses, it gradually grew its haute couture portfolio to include lifestyle, jewelry, and watches. 2002 was the year LV unveiled its first timepiece which it now honors with the Tambour Twenty.
2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the model that heralded the brand’s entry into the world of horology. The name says it all and the debut of this timekeeping tribute also overlaps the opening of the company’s watchmaking workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
The chronograph comes in a 41.5 mm x 13.20 mm stainless-steel case. The best way to describe the Tambour Twenty’s outline is that of a Japanese taiko drum. It’s wider toward the case back and tapers upward to from the fixed bezel. Engravings of the Louis Vuitton script are on the case band.
An octagonal crown with the LV log adorns the right flank between two rectangular pushers. The Tambour Twenty flaunts a brown sunray dial with applied baton and Arabic hour markers. Meanwhile, Its sloping flange is in a darker shade of brown with the 1/10 second track in white.
Below the Louis Vuitton signature are three sub-dials. Those at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock sport snailed textures, while the one at 6 o’clock is framed by subsidiary indices. Yellow chronograph hands contrast the silver baton hour and minute hands.
A date window peeks between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock. Running the Tambour Twenty is a La Fabrique de Temps LV 277 automatic calibre with a 22k rose gold rotor. Finally, completing the timepiece is a dark brown alligator leather strap with a steel pin buckle closure
